Firefighting is a role that has traditionally been deemed as 'one for the boys'.  However, opinions are changing, as local women's rugby team The Nottingham Outlaws soon found out, when they attended a 'have a go' session at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service's (NFRS) training and development centre on Saturday (3 October).

The Outlaws' packed day kicked off at 9.30am with vital safety information, followed by circuit training to test the girls' fitness, introduction to the role of a firefighter and physical activities to test vital skills needed for the job. These skills included the ability to work at height, ability to work in tight spaces, strength, and their problem solving abilities. The girls took part in a car cutting exercise at the scene of a mock road traffic accident, as well as having the chance to talk to Station Manager Jo Ward about the role of a firefighter from a woman's perspective.
